WHY ARE YOU FEELING EXHAUSTED?

Feeling Exhausted, tired and fatigued since falling pregnant?

It’s all totally normal and part of the parcel of becoming a mum, but how do you get through your days (and nights!) when feeling so drained!?

Lets acknolwledge one thing first and foremost. Pregnancy is HARD WORK! More difficult and tiring than any of us first thought it would be, and we definitly don’t give ourselves enough credit for how awesome we are for the mere fact that we create, carry and then birth our offspring! WOMEN ARE AMAZING!

What causes pregnancy fatigue?

Causes of fatigue during early pregnancy may include:

  • Building the placenta. During the first trimester, a huge amount of energy goes into building a life-support system for your baby, which is why you might be feeling extra sleepy.

  • Your hormones. Riding the physical and emotional roller coaster of pregnancy can be tiring.

  • An increase in metabolism coupled with a decrease in blood sugar and blood pressure.

By the end of the first trimester, your body will have completed the immense task of manufacturing the placenta and grown a bit more used to the hormonal and emotional changes that have occurred, which means the second trimester is usually a time of renewed energy levels.

Causes of fatigue during later pregnancy may include:

  • Your growing baby bump. You're carrying extra weight than you were earlier on in pregnancy, which can make you move at a much slower pace and can be very tiring.

  • Pregnancy insomnia and other symptoms. Your flourishing baby bump along with pregnancy symptoms including heartburn, backache and restless leg syndrome may make sleep more difficult than before.

  • Multi-tasking. Add responsibilities like a job and other children into the mix, and the fatigue factor multiplies.

I think for the sake of this article, you should take a moment for yourself, breathe and just acknowledge how incredible a human you really are. You are growing a baby. You are riding the highs and lows of your hormones, changing your diet through want or need, thinking about birth plans, thinking about your new baby, thinking about your partner. BUT…are you thinking about yourself?

Today, do one thing for you. One thing where you can just be. Maybe that’s listening to your favourite music, baking or walking out in nature. Maybe you need some time with your best friend to just really laugh. Even though you are tired right now, doing something you love will increase your energy levels and make you feel much lighter emotionally. ♡
