I may only be 5ft 4in with a very calming presence and two (very different) hypnobirths under my belt, but I am an absolute pocket rocket, with bucket loads of ‘calm birth’ wisdom at my fingertips who actively promotes your birth rights on a daily basis.
Hypnobirthing and Birth Support are my two loves. I am a Doula for some of my hypnobirthing families and a Mindful Breastfeeding Peer Supporter to many. I quite often continue my services and love for the postnatal period throughout your fourth trimester, by supporting your prepared ‘post-partum intentions’ and teaching the art Baby Massage, which believe me, is a complete ‘love bubble’ that you do not want to miss out on!
My passion and love for what I do pours out of my heart and soul. I literally breathe it, and it runs through my veins.
I was in the same position as you once, pregnant and looking for birth education to embark on.
As a hypnobirthing mother myself I feel compelled to tell my story.
When I fell pregnant with my daughter, my husband and I were eager to attend antenatal classes and absorb all the information about what lies ahead.
It was an easy decision for us as to which course both my husband and I were going to attend, as, when I stumbled across Hypnobirthing, the ethos was very much about achieving ‘the right birth on the day.’ Now, this resonated with me as nobody could predict the type of birth I was going to have, nor could anyone predict how long it was going to take, what pain relief I may choose, etc.
All I knew was that I wanted a calm, relaxed birthing experience and what will be will be.
We attended these classes over 4 weeks and learnt so much about how the body actually works when in labour and how our emotions and state of mind can influence the outcome of our baby’s birth. We left each session feeling excited and educated about our baby’s upcoming arrival and found ourselves telling lots of our friends and family about this amazing antenatal course in which we were totally engrossed.
Many of them shrugged this off as some kind of hippie nonsense that wasn’t going to work, which didn’t bother us in the slightest because we knew that a positive state of mind would achieve a positive outcome.
The morning I went into labour, I remember so clearly the excitement we felt. The endless cups of tea and giggles we had. The warm baths in the comfort of our own home. Lying down on our incredibly comfy super-king sized bed, awaiting the arrival of our little baby.
Now, we were expecting to go into the MLU at our local hospital, but as many hypnobirthing mothers will tell you, things progressed rather quickly. My mind and body were so relaxed that I laboured really well and before we knew it our little baby was being born.
Remember when I said no one could predict what type of birth I was going to have?
Well, our daughter was born at home (unexpected), with no pain relief (as I had hoped), and in a breech position (undiagnosed). It was the most empowering, incredible experience of my entire life. I still think about it every single day, and I can clearly remember just minutes after she was born turning to my husband and saying “I just want to do that again. That was absolutely amazing!”
There are still people out there who just don’t believe me. Even some friends of ours shake their heads and say “You’re telling me that when you gave birth it was amazing? I don’t believe you.”
So here I am, fully trained in teaching you The Little Birth Company Hypnobirthing Programme, so you can all achieve the birth that is right for you as individuals., no matter what path your birthing takes. I want you to become experts in relaxation and emotional control to enable you to enjoy your pregnancy thoroughly and to achieve an empowering, breath-taking birth experience. I want you to learn that there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of, that you can trust your body and your baby to do what it needs to do in way that feels right for you.
I cannot wait to meet you and take you on this fascinating journey of encouragement, confidence and inspiration.
I have since given birth to my second baby. Another hypnobirth, another home birth (planned this time!!) If you would like to read my positive birth story, click here.
